Susan said, "These young Interacters have a very special place in my heart. We should all be very proud to have them in our community!"
"Peace, in all of the ways that we can understand it, is a real goal and a realistic goal for Rotary. Peace is not something that can only be achieved through agreements, by governments, or through heroic struggles. It is something that we can find and that we can achieve, every day and in many simple ways."
Sakuji Tanaka President, Rotary International, 2012-13
This week's Four Way Test Speech Contest was a great success. Thirteen HBHS students presented 5-7 minute well-prepared and impactful speeches on a wide variety of topics from self-respect to euthanasia, from parenting programs to honor killings, and many others, all through the lens of Rotary's Four Way Test.
The contest winner, Sarah Scott, will go on to our District's semi-finals in Henniker in April. The top three speakers at the semi-finals will present their speeches at our District Conference in May. All levels of participation include financial awards.
We are grateful to the students who participated and to Mrs. Marie Salamone for her championing of the contest through her curriculum. Thanks, also to our friends at the Rotary Club of Merrimack for their help with this event.

The Hollis Brookline Rotary Club hosted a televised candidates' forum on Sunday, March 3rd at 1 PM at Hollis Town Hall. This event provided an opportunity for the voters of both towns to see and hear the candidates on the ballot on election day. The event was moderated using as a framework the decades-old Rotary "Four-Way Test," which is a formula recited by all Rotarians worldwide at the close of each of their weekly meetings.
- Is it the truth?
- Is it fair to all concerned?
- Will it build good will and better friendships?
- Will it be beneficial to all concerned?
By all accounts the event was a great success, serving as at least a partial replacement for the sadly-absent local-newspaper medium for candidates to place their views and positions before the local electorate. The event was televised live and recorded. The recording can be streamed here.

The Hollis Brookline Rotary Club is honored to sponsor CHALLENGE DAY at HBHS in December. It was a definite "YES!" when we were asked to not only sponsor, but for some of us to join in on, the day's events. It will be a day of learning, caring, and letting down guards. The intention is to break down barriers while teaching empathy among a cross representation of student leaders and students who are at risk. See lots more here.
Members of the Hollis-Brookline Rotary Club are leading a project within District 7870 to provide an emergency solar power solution to Puerto Rico. These Solar Outreach System trailers are not only serving the people of PR in their time of need, but they will be redeployed to other areas of the world in response to future disasters when emergency power is needed.
Many thanks to the Milford Rotary Club for their generous financial support and to a number of other clubs that have joined in the effort. Working with the great team at ReVision Energy has been inspiring. Huge thanks to them for Making a Difference in the world and for the opportunity to be partners in that.
Three members of the club gathered with the team at Revision Energy last Friday for a send-off of the first three trailers.
